Some clean sources for seeds listed below. I personally have been thrilled with Harris, Cooks' Garden, Horizon Herbs, Sandhill, and SeedSavers. I cannot speak for the others, as I haven't tried them.

Please be advised of the formal statement from Burpee below in response to this post.

Burpee is the nation's leading purveyor of both heirloom and hybrid vegetable seeds and mail order transplants. Burpee sources seeds from a select list of suppliers throughout the world including Seminis. However, none of the seeds purchased from Seminis or any other supplier are GMO. Burpee has never bred or sold GMO seeds and does not intend to do so in the future.

Burpee was founded in 1876 by seed pioneer W. Atlee Burpee. The company remains privately owned by George Ball, a third generation seedsman, who serves as Chairman and CEO of W. Atlee Burpee & Co. and is past president of The American Horticultural Society. For more information, please visit our company history page at www.burpee.com.

Thanks for writing, Kristin. I've looked into this and amended my post. According to my research, in 2005 Monsanto bought Seminis Inc., a seed company. Seminis in turn supplies some seeds to Burpee. I want to be accurate and educational, not rumour-passing. Thanks for the comments!

I'm a bit unclear on this Heartlander. Why is for example Johnny's selected seeds on both of these lists?

@Norma:
Great catch. I didn't realize I did that! Thanks for posting the info. Although I've never purchased from Johnny's I certainly would if I couldn't find what I was looking for with my regular guys. (Harris and Southern)
